Brownies in a Mug

I stumbled upon this recipe for Brownies in a Mug on the Instructables site. After suffering through some trials, the boys and I think this we’ve perfected a really good recipe! DS2 made a big batch (10 brownies worth) to give to his teacher.

Brownies in a Mug

  • 2 Tbl flour
  • 2 Tbl sugar
  • 1 Tbl unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1-1/2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbl plus 1-1/2 tsp water
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla

Stir the dry ingredients together in a microwavable mug. Add the wet ingredients and stir to combine. Microwave on high power for 45 seconds. We add some chocolate chips to the dry ingredients, to keep life interesting. We also drizzle some half & half on top of the cooked brownie, in case we aren’t getting enough fat in our diets. Ice cream would be heavenly, too!

Want to make a gift? Here’s our bigger recipe batch:

  • 1-1/4 c flour
  • 1-1/4 c sugar
  • 1/2 c plus 2 Tbl cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder

Add printed instructions for the wet ingredients, including the directions to scoop 5 Tbl of mix into the mug, then add a bow and a mug, and you’ve got an easy and fast holiday gift!
